More quirky places to stay

The Association says it offers 90 places in Australia and 4000-plus others around the world.

In addition to the newly opened Fremantle Prison YHA, they include planes, trains, and tepee tents, YHA boasts in its latest drive for membership.

And YHA has announced, “Backpacker travel just got even better with a new low price for YHA membership”, which now costs AUD $25 a year.

Its home-based offers include a train carriage at Sydney’s Railway Square, a tepee in the ‘Age of Aquarius’ town of Nimbin in northern New South Wales and its well publicized World Heritage listed jail in Fremantle, Western Australia.

Elswhere, unusual accommodation includes a former airplane at Jumbo Stay Hostel in Stockholm, a full-rigged ship in Sweden and a former lighthouse in California.
