Meridian Energy is reported to be next in the process of privatisation – Key told press representatives that the next part-sale would be “an energy company”.
The New Zealand Herald predicts that Key intends to sell Meridian Energy, which is valued at NZ$6.5 billion.
Plans to privatise the country’s resources have proved unpopular with many voters. Last month, protesters from Keep Our Assets Christchurch ‘privitised’ a road leading to the National Party’s Mainland Region conference, setting up a mock toll booth.
