A Gold Coast police officer has been dragged “some distance” by a car that unexpectedly sped off.
The officer was performing traffic duty when he intercepted a speeding vehicle at Cottesloe Drive, in Robina, at about 1pm (AEST) on Wednesday.
The officer approached the car but, police say, the female driver became evasive when asked for identification.
It is believed the officer then reached into the vehicle trying to turn of the ignition and the car sped off.
Police say the officer was dragged for a distance before falling to the roadway.
He was taken to the Robina Hospital for treatment and later released.
Police are still searching for the driver and the car, which was last seen driving onto Bermuda Street.
Anyone with information which could help police with their investigations is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
