He will face trial early in 2014 on the charge relating to a shooting on February 14 this year.

An exact date is yet to be set, national prosecuting authority spokesman Medupe Simasiku said, but it could be decided on Monday when the Paralympic champion next faces court.

It’s been alleged that Pistorius could be charged with additional counts of discharging a firearm recklessly, although this has not been confirmed.

Simasiku did confirm the double amputee who competed in the Olympics will “definitely” face trial for premeditated murder.

If convicted, he could face a life sentence with a minimum of 25 years in prison.

Pistorius maintains his innocence on the charge of murder.
