The South African team’s win sets up a date with the form team of the competition the Sydney Sixers or their countrymates from the north, the Nashua Titans, who play today at 3.30pm GMT.
Only recently recalled England batsman Pietersen put up any resistance as the Daredevils failed to chase down the Lions’modest total of 139 runs (Gulam Bodi 50, Neil McKenzie 46no).
After losing Sehwag from the third ball of their innings, Pietersen strode out for Delhi to join Aussie Warner – a formidable pair if there ever was one – and they went to work. But when Warner went softly for 21, it was the beginning of the end.
Pietersen worked his way to 50 with the only help coming from Saffa bowler Morne Morkel (18), with his team managing a paltry 117.
The winner of the Sixers and Titans clash goes into Sunday’s final against the Lions.
Aussie Big Bash champs the Sixers are unbeaten in the competition, but will face the Titans – who have limped into the semis after a heavy loss to the Kolkata Knight Riders – at their home ground, Centurion.
