The bizarre hat Princess Beatrice wore to the royal wedding has gone up for auction for charity with bids passing the £18,000 mark.

Princess Beatrice’s hat designed by Philip Treacy and unfavourably compared to a Turkey Twizzler and toilet seat has gone on sale to raise money for Unicef and Children in Crisis.

Dragons Den entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne opened the auction with a bid of £5000.

“‘I’d encourage everyone to get bidding to raise as much money as possible – for once I don’t mind if I don’t walk away with the deal.” He told the Daily Mail.

The auction on eBay, has so far had 64 bids from 32 bidders.

Australian children’s TV entertainers The Wiggles also put in an offer of £17,500 Anthony Field, of The Wiggles, told the BBC: “We wear some pretty crazy costumes on stage but this hat beats them all – it could bring about an Australian republic all by itself.“

“When we heard about the auction we knew we had to bid. We’re ambassadors for Unicef and we think it’s great that Princess Beatrice has chosen to support children in great need.”

But The Wiggles bid has been surpassed with the top bid for Princess Beatrice’s hat standing at at £18,400. The auction ends on May 22.
