What: A crowd of 200,000 people and 50,000 camels descend on the dunes outside Pushkar for a colourful week of livestock trading, camel racing, moustache competitions, religious activities, and just some bloody good fun.

Where: Pushkar, Rajasthan.

When: October 25 to November 2.

Why: Rural Indians make the pilgrimage to Pushkar to trade camels and cattle, but the fair is always more party than business.

Do it because: It’s probably the most visually spectacular festival you’ll ever see, with acrobats, musicians, folk dancers and livestock traders.
