The man from London was arrested on suspicion of sexual offences and has been taken to a south London police station for questioning.

Scotland Yard’s Operation Yewtree was launched in October 2012 in order to investigate the alleged sexual abuse of children by British media personality Jimmy Savile, and others. The arrest today comes under the ‘others’ strand of the investigation, meaning that the allegations are unconnected to Savile himself.

The man is the sixth to be arrested, and the seventh to be questioned.

The five people arrested under Operation Yewtree are comedian Freddie Starr, singer Gary Glitter, publicist Max Clifford, DJ Dave Lee Travis and Wilfred De’ath. They are all on bail and have denied all accusations.

In November, detectives investigating the Savile scandal claimed they were dealing with around 450 potential victims.

The operation has 30 officers and has already cost £2m.
