There was enough of the white stuff laying on the ground for the children of Stanthorpe (215 miles west of Brisbane) to have snowball fights, in what has been suggested to be Queenslands’ largest snowfall since 1984.
Snow also covered areas of New South Wales, including Katoomba, Taralga, Tarunga, Woodstock and Portland – west and northwest of Sydney.
The snow was caused by an upper-level low pressure system which slid through eastern Australia. Over the past weekend, a rare snow event was seen in the hills around Adelaide, and a “thundersnow” event was also seen in the Blue Mountains.
