The 67 year old was named as a person of interest in the case, and has complained that he was being “harassed” by Belize police. Fearing that he would be charged with the murder of his neighbour Florida businessman Gregory Faull, McAfee left the country.

Faull was found dead three weeks ago after being shot in the head in his home on the tropical island of Belize. McAffee, who has been on the run from authorities fearing that he would be “summarily executed” if he surrendered, was arrested by Guatemalan police and charged with illegally entering the country.

“He entered the country illegally and we are going to seek his expulsion for this crime,” said Guatemala’s interior minister Mauricio Lopez Bonilla.

Vice Magazine, who were accompanying the software magnate on his journey, accidentally revealed their location in Guatemala by publishing a photo which contained GPS data.

McAfee fears that authorities in Belize intend to kill him “They think it’s a wonderful, peaceful, lovely place, blue waters, so McAfee has got to be crazy. Maybe I am crazy. If I were, I wouldn’t know.” he said in a blog post. He has been accused of extreme paranoia – with the Belize prime minister labeling him “bonkers”.
