Step up juice brand Supernatural. Master mixologists Dan Thomson and Terence Robson have come together in a joyful alcoholic union to launch the UK’s first alcohol juice bar. With bars like Milk & Honey and Graphic behind them, these guys know a thing are two about cocktails.
Nestled in a cosy rooftop lodge-like space in old Spitalfields market the bar is hoping to be a hit those who work (out) hard and play hard. It will serve raw shakes by day and transform into a late night cocktail joint by night.
You won’t find just your average spirit and juice out of a carton here, the menu includes artisan spirits, cold-press juice mixers, kale bitters, nutrient dense raw coconut and nut milks and fresh edible garnishes.
Naturally, the question on everyone’s lips is: do they actually taste nice? My verdict is: yes they do.
First off I tried the Pina Kaleada (rum, coconut milk, kale and citrus smoked sea salt and a power-packed plant-based Wheatgrass Verdita). While I like normal Pina Coladas I find them way too creamy. This one was perfect. The coconut milk added the same texture of the cream without the over-powering sugary taste.
That was followed by the Matcha Tea (coconut rum infused with mango, ginger, lemon grass, lime, Thai chilli and pineapple). I was intrigued by the combination of lemon grass and Thai chilli. After the first sip I was convinced. Then again, these guys are professionals, they know what works.
Lastly I tasted the Beetroota – (vodka, beetroot apple, ginger and agave, decorated with blueberries and mint. Initially I declined the cocktail due to my severe dislike of beetroot. I told Dan as much and he persuaded me to give it a go. While it wasn’t my favourite the vodka does a stellar job of neutralising the awful taste of beetroot.
All cocktails on the menu are priced between £9.00 – £12.00.
Supernatural at Ethos is open Monday-Friday 7am-11pm, Saturday 9am-11pm and Sunday 9am-7pm. Alcoholic Bar opens from 4pm.
