Take That’s Mark Owen and Howard Donald were trapped inside a giant robot stage prop during the Manchester leg of their UK tour on Saturday night.
The singers were left stranded on the 100ft stage during their gig at the City of Manchester Stadium when it malfunctioned at the climax of the show.
The incident occurred during the song Love Love, when the huge robot-man broke down, leaving Owen and Donald dangling in the air.
Take That have spent a whopping £15million on the set for their Progress Live tour, which is the first since Owen, Donald, Gary Barlow and Jason Orange reunited with Robbie Williams last year.
Owen and Donald had climbed up on to the robot’s ‘hands’ so they could look down on their fans. But the high-tech device – nicknamed ‘Om’ failed to work, and instead they had to be rescued by crew with ladders.
A statement from the group read: “The mechanical man did stop in motion at the end of Love Love but the matter was resolved and by the end of the show he was standing tall again.
“There is no guarantee that with a mechanical structure the size of Om, there will be no recurrence at some point but all seems fine now.”
Take That are performing across the UK as part of the 27-date tour, which also includes Cardiff, Glasgow, Birmingham and London.
Around two million fans will flock to the band’s gigs across Europe and the UK this summer.
