As many as 81,000 people have now signed the petition in the state of Texas, so many that it qualifies for an official White House response.

The number of signatures that requires an official response is, in fact, 25,000, so the Texan petition has amassed more than three times that number.

Mitt Romney took 57.2% of the vote in Texas, compared to Obama’s 41.4%, however Texas State Governor Rick Perry has said he has no interest in the state seceding.

“Gov. Perry believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it,” his office said in a statement to the Dallas Morning News.

“But he also shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government.”

The White House has stated it will respond in a timely manner.
