The scene: A gastro pub that manages to feel both hip and happening and cosy and warm.

The grub: With meat sourced from rare-breed UK farms and veggies from their own roof-top garden, The Easton’s largely British-inspired menu is a winner. “This is the best chicken I’ve ever eaten,” was one friend’s verdict.

Behind the bar: A long and varied wine list that looks as though it was compiled by someone who knows their plonk. On tap are the usual suspects – Staropramen, Kronenburg and Hoegaarden.

Service: In the past The Easton has come under fire for its patchy service, but we couldn’t fault the friendly, attentive staff on our visit.

Bill please: Prices are average for this upmarket part of town – which is to say not cheap, but not a rip off.

Verdict: One of my favourite London pubs.
