The scene: A sizeable revamped pub with an open floor rammed with cushy, studded armchairs. It’s village hall meets gastropub with sport on big screens and a pool table. Currently attracting salt-of-the-earth locals, it’s shaping up to entice drinkers from further afield than Queen’s Park and Kilburn.

The grub: The kitchen is a work in progress but due to open soon. The menu will include home-made burgers, wedges and other fast fare.

Behind the bar: The usual lagers and ales are on draught and standard cocktails are available. The wine range is slim, though.

Bill please: A pint of lager is £3.40, cocktails £6, and a large glass of wine is £4.95.

Verdict: A scrappy exterior belies a comfortable and attractive pub, and the staff and drinking folk are friendly. There’s loads of room for a crowd.
