The scene: A welcoming gastropub in the heart of
chichi Primrose Hill.

The grub: The Engineer promises “responsibly sourced, seasonal food”
and delivers it. Think unfussy, rustic numbers, such as confit duck leg with red cabbage, and sirloin steak with fries.

Behind the bar: The wine list was long, imaginative and punctuated with headings such as: “Aromatic, punchy, gobsmacking whites”. Wow.

Bill please: Prices are at the upper end of the gastropub market and a 12.5 per cent service charge is added.

Verdict: We had a lovely Sunday afternoon here with the sun flooding the windows. We all ordered the organic roast chicken (boring, but the pork belly roast had finished). It was delicious. Our waiter even lent one of us his sunglasses when the sun got too bright. Now that’s what
I call service.
