The scene A spacious establishment on first entering, it has small tables for couples, larger tables for groups and long, wide tables for a proper party, alongside its quirky, haphazard decor and charm.
Step out the back and there is a large covered decking area comprising tables and outdoor screens for sports fans, pool tables and cute little huts in the corners of the garden that look like they have been flown in from a tropical beach somewhere in the southern hemisphere.
The grub Traditional pub grub that is hearty, warming and filling, yet not harsh on the wallet, such as tomato and mixed bean soup with bread for starters, duck confit or sausages and mash for mains and desserts such as sticky toffee pudding, along with burgers, pizzas and a brunch menu, too.
The Railway also, as we sampled, does a mean Sunday roast, though its popularity means you best not sleep in too long on a Sunday – get there early or you’ll be missing out.

Verdict A homely, lively and fun pub that deserves to be everyone’s local.
