Petitions on the White House’s website have passed the 25,000 signatures mark that means that the Obama administration must give some kind of response.

Texan Governor and one time Republican Presidential candidate Rick Perry has been forced to publicly deny that he is a supporter of the Texan nationalist movement saying he believed “in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it”.

In the mid 1800s Texas was its own independent nation between Spanish controlled Mexico and an expanding American Republic. Texans have always been wary of interference from Washington, even after coming into the Union and retain a great of pride in the exploits of the past.

Although it’s not only Texans who are unhappy about the re-election of Obama to the White House with petitioners spread across the South’s heartland: Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina have all also passed the 25,000 signature mark.

Of course the chance of Obama allowing the South to secede from the Union is unthinkable but the petitions are certainly symptomatic of just how divided America is at the current time.
