1. For a journey through Spain’s food… Llamber

%TNT Magazine% Llamber 1300

Location: Born

Must-try: Fideuà de sobrasada with calamari and aioli and honey ice cream.

Llamber celebrates seasonal ingredients from the Catalunyan mountains to the sea, as well as national produce. Treat yourself to beautifully presented tapas and dishes with a contemporary twist: from salmon carpaccio with citrus, dill yoghurt and ginger ice cream, to the Iberian pork shoulder confit with carbonara and portobello mushroom.

Go on a journey with the Tuna Tataki, served on ajoblanco purée. This is a beautiful take on the soup of almonds and garlic typical to Andalusia. The Fideuà de sobrasada with calamari and aioli and honey ice cream is a nod to the Valencian version of paella using vermicelli. The journey ends with an array of options for dessert – the passion fruit ice cream with pineapple granitas a refreshing and zesty option. Perfect after rich and moreish flavours.

It’s no surprise the food is a beauty, chef Francisco Heras has an award-winning history, that includes working with El Bulli’s Ferrán Adriá.

Wine lovers: Llamber’s wine cellar offers over 150 bottles!

*Note: some dishes are new to the menu. We were offered a tasting menu, some of these dishes can be found on the menu.

2. For seafood along the beachfront… Barraca

%TNT Magazine% Barraca

Location: Barceloneta, on the Sant Sebastià seafront.

Must-try: Clams, mussels and cockles to share, followed by a paella.

Head to the beach and dine on fresh seafood, while forgetting your problems in Barraca’s contemporary and relaxed setting. ‘Grandma’s cod fritters’, a typical dish, is a perfect blend of salty broth and creaminess from its cod and béchamel filling. Clams, mussels and cockles are a delicious sharer, with hints of chilli and garlic. Our bowl was emptied.

Dining at Barraca isn’t complete without trying the paella, their signature dish. Try the seafood: tender calamari, giant prawns, mussels and crayfish on a bed of beautifully-seasoned rice. We loved the crunch from its session under the grill.

If you love your deserts, the Almond Creme Brûlée with Carquinyolis has a sweet, nutty twist that balances the caramelised flavours. Prices are affordable and the organic wines and cavas on the menu are the perfect end to your meal.

3. For a small twist on tapas… Telefèric

%TNT Magazine% teleferic

Location: Near Passeig de Gracia.

Must-try: Filet de bou del pais Basc (Steak fillets from the Basque country) and a mix of the pintxos.

Pintxos are traditional to the Basque country, however with the rising trend of Pintxos bars in Barcelona, head to Telefèric for these bite-sized flavours and tapas. Smaller than tapas the pintxos are served on pinchos – small sticks – with a variety of ingredients on bread. The pintxos in Telefèric are packed with complementary flavours and textures, from goat’s cheese and strawberries with a baked apple, to jamon, quail’s egg and pimientos.

%TNT Magazine% Teleferic

Feast on a platter of Jamón Ibérico to start your meal, devour the steak fillets and rather than staring at all the pintxos with indecision, we say choose a few to share. Done!
