While the family usually hitting the headlines for the lecherous behaviour of patriach and former PM Silvio, whose appetite for woman has become legendary, it’s son Pier who is slobbering over the rangy Geordie.

“As a future target I’d like Andy Carroll,” Milan owner Berlusconi said.

“I must admit that for his body build, and after seeing his header in the Euros, I would like to have Carroll at Milan.”

Carroll was a British record transfer signing when Anfield snapped him up from Newcastle for £35million in January 2011.

He initially struggled but enjoyed an encouraging end to last season and was rewarded with a place in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad.

Carroll scored a devastating header in England’s 3-2 group stage win over Sweden – a goal which has prompted Milan’s surprise interest.

Berlusconi added: “This is a new era for Milan.”

“We will continue to get younger while maintaining the culture. Milan still has its superstars.”
