Two fifths of British holidaymakers have been a victim of theft while on holiday abroad, but the overwhelming majority of these, 61%, didn’t report the incident; with many blaming themselves for their personal belongings being taken.
Sunshine.co.uk, who conducted the research, found that the top ten items most likely to be stolen from Brits abroad were cameras, sunglasses, money, mobiles, jewellery, beach toys, footwear, clothes, handbags and, unusually, sun cream.
Unbelievably, 61% of people didn’t report the thefts, with nearly three quarters of people keeping quiet because they thought it was ‘their own fault’ the items had been stolen. Come on, Brits – stand up for yourselves!
The top three locations for thefts were the beach, the poolside and unlocked hotel rooms.
