The government has confirmed that checks will be carried out on flights leaving and coming into the UK, but has not said which ones will be under scrutiny.
New guidelines were announced in the US last week after homeland security revealed that there had been a possible terrorist threat.
A spokesman for the Department for Transport said: “In line with the US advice, passengers on some routes into and out of the UK may now also be required to show that electronic devices in their hand luggage are powered up or face not being allowed to bring the device onto the aircraft.”
