“Essentially, it’s a controlled crash,” Gary Connery said yesterday after he picked himself up from the cardboard boxes in which he ‘landed’ after he had leapt from a helicopter 2,400ft above the ground.
Stepping off the helicopter’s skids, Connery soared through the skies aided by only his wingsuit, cruising at speeds of 80mph before landing in a field in Marlow, Buckinghamshire – becoming the first man in history to complete a parachuteless jump of this kind.
Connery, who has completed over 880 skydives and 450 base jumps and works as a stuntman.
He has entered the history books as the first person to pull of this death- (and gravity-defying stunt.
