Of the 1.43 million, more than 19,500 of them were international visitors who came to see the festival on Vivid Sydney travel packages, which is another huge increase on last year.

Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) CEO Ken Morrison said the festival is a major drawcard and efforts by Destination New South Wales to promote it as a “must-see event” has paid off for tourism growth in the state.

“Full credit must go to Destination New South Wales, which first created and now owns and manages the event, for its success in growing attendance,” he said.

Vivid Sydney 2014 was made up of more than 200 events and featured 50 free light installations and projections and 80 Vivid Music shows.
