X Factor’s Gamu, who was controversially dropped from the show by Cheryl Cole last weekend, could be deported from Britain, it has been revealed.
Gamu’s mother has been refused permission to stay in the UK after her visa expired in August. The family will be deported to their native Zimbabwe if they do not leave the country voluntarily.
The 18-year-old was tipped to win the X Factor after a series of faultless performances and there was an outcry when judge, Cheryl Cole, eliminated her from the show. Furious viewers accused Cole of racism and of cynically axing Gamu purely because her visa is about to run out.
Cher Lloyd and Katie Waissel went through to the finals, despite both breaking down on Saturday night.
Hope had remained that Cheryl would choose Gamu as her ‘wild card’ pick, but it has been reported that X Factor bosses have now told her she won’t be back on the show.
Gamu’s misery was compiled when the Home Office last night confirmed that her family had been sent an official letter telling them to leave Britain.
The order was the result of an investigation into £16,000 in benefits wrongly claimed by Gamu’s mother, Nokutula, according to The Sun.
Nokutula was denied permission to remain in the country and Gamu and her two brothers will also be forced to leave Britain because they arrived on their mother’s visa.
Gamu’s family, whose home is in Scotland, could be deported it they do not voluntarily leave Britain.
More
than 170,000 fans are now members of “Gamu should have got through” on
Facebook and ITV have received around 700 complaints about the decision
to axe her.
