As well as being one of the best traditional boozers in the capital, this pub has something going on nearly every night of the week – from a crazy quiz with dirty doodles to its renowned and very lively Morning Ritual Records on Friday.
The scene When you’re not getting wild, this is the perfect place to chow down on pub grub and sip a pint or three.
Set over two floors, there are comfortable Chesterfield sofas and ample seating for you and a bunch of mates.
But, be warned, this venue is often rammed. If you’re lucky enough to bag a table, stay there or you’ll lose it.
The grub Don’t expect top-notch, fancy meals – this is pub grub in the traditional sense.
Order sandwiches (such as the bacon cheeseburger with mustard and ketchup), sides (including mac and cheese) and sliders, or rock up for the Sunday lunch.
Choose from a roast of rib of Bowland beef, cornfed Goosnargh chicken, leg of Lonk lamb or there’s a spinach and feta filo for the veggies, which are all served with crispy roasties, veg, yorkshire pudding and gravy.
Behind the bar There’s a decent cocktail list with delights such as Navy Grog (three rums, lime, grapefruit and honey), as well as local beers, including Hackney Gold.
Bill please Snacks from £3.50; Sunday lunch from £10; cocktails from £7; beers from £4.20 a bottle and £4.10 a pint; wines from £3.90 a glass.
Verdict Don’t leave London without checking this out.
