Ever thought there aren’t enough options on how to be slotted into the ground when you pop your clogs?
Well, help is at hand. Darwin City Council is urging the Northern Territory local government to allow corpses to be buried standing up, or be stacked in threes.
“Vertical positioning of the body in the ground is a good use of space,” alderman Gary Lambert said.
The council also suggested three bodies could be buried in a grave in a “horizontal stack”.
“There’s a lot of merit in in-filling new burial sites that are eventually going to be surrounded by the suburbs where you can get a lot more people in the ground by standing them up,” he said.
