A father who reportedly delivered his own son in a hospital in the absence of a qualified midwife said if he hadn’t acted quickly, his child would have “fallen on to the floor”.

The Sun reports 36-year-old Daniel Araujo saw his son’s head “poke out of Natalia’s underwear” in the hospital’s maternity ward reception room.

As a staff member ran off to get help, Natalia got in a standing position and after one push, Daniel Jr was in his dad’s arms.

But the job wasn’t done for the Brazilian-born Araujo, as he saw the umbilical cord obstructing his kid’s breathing.

“I saw how it was done with my first two kids. If I wasn’t there he’d have fallen on to the floor. I thought he was going to die,” he said.

Midwives arrived moments later and took Nalalia, 27, for a check up at Hillingdon Hospital in Uxbridge.

Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has apologised to the couple and say they plan to investigate what happened.
