London cable cars 'Emirates Air Line' open ferrying passengers from Greenwich over the Thames

Emirates Air Line, funded with £36m from the Dubai-owned airline, crosses the Thames form Greenwich Peninsula on the south to Royal Docks on the north.



The 34 cabins reach a height of 90m above the river, and carry the equivalent of 30 buses of passengers from riverside Olympic venues the Excel Centre and the O2. 



Boris was particularly impressed with the cable car, which is Britain’s first urban cable car system, decreeing that it made him feel like Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
