London 2012: Aussie women's water polo celebrate too soon in bronze medal match

The Aussies were 10-11 up as Hungary fired in a tame shot with just 10 seconds to go.

Aussie keeper Alicia McCormack made a comfortable save before paddling out with the ball in an attempt to wind down the remaining time.

She was quickly swamped by two Hungary players, and with the clock on 00:01, Hungary's Dora Antal stole the ball and backhanded a blind shot into the open net.

The game went to overtime and luckily for McCormack, the Australians came through to win 13-11 and secure the green and golds' 10th bronze of the Games and their 29th medal overall.

Water polo, for the uninitiated, is like handball in a swimming pool, which on the surface of the water looks like the type of thing that pensioners might play on holiday, but in reality is mostly surreptitiously try to drown the opposing team.
