London 2012: New Zealand Olympic hockey team shootout hell

New Zealand hockey team, The Black Sticks, lost the London 2012 Olympic semi-final to the Netherlands after a nail-biting shootout was used to decide the winners.
After 85 minutes, the New Zealand and Holland women's hockey teams were still tied at 2-2, sending the match into shoot-outs, the first in Olympic hockey history.
The Black Sticks had twice held the lead over the Dutch and the New Zealand team won heartfelt admiration from spectators as wounded striker Katie Glynn – who was unintentionally hit over the head with a hockey stick – returned to the pitch in a bandage to finish the match.
However in the shootout, New Zealand only scored once and the girls in orange claimed the match.
The result means that New Zealand’s Black Sticks will now play the loser of the other semi-final between Argentina and Great Britain for bronze on Friday.
