Britney Spears was spotted in New York today for what gossip sites are speculating will be the announcement that she and Disney star Demi Lovato have signed on to become the new judges of X Factor USA.

Spears' addition to the revamped judging panel is being called 'the worst-kept secret in TV', after rumours of a deal surfaced over the past few months. According to reports, the pop princess's fiance Jason Trawick and dad Jamie Spears have signed the $15 million contract, as they are Britney's conservators.

The first season of X Factor USA garnered disappointing ratings, leading series creator Simon Cowell and his team to dump judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

Replacements Spears and singer-songwriter Lovato will join LA Reid and Cowell on the judging panel.

Entertainment experts are mulling over the consequences of Spears - who has been relatively media-shy since entering into her conservatorship - dealing with the unpredictable environment of live TV.

It could be make or break time for Britney's career ... again.
