Guy Whittall knows the truth behind the children's tale of finding monsters under the bed - Whittall woke up to find an 8 foot crocodile hiding under his bed.

Guy Whittall, a director at Humani safari park spent his night asleep a mere centimetres away from the 150kg croc that had crept in from the Turgwe River to his lodge in Zimbabwe, reported the Daily Star.

The crocodile was discovered after Whittall's housemaid had discovered the intruder and proceeded to scream. Guy ran in to his room to finally discover who he had shared his bed with the night before.

Mr Whittall said the "disconcerting thing about the whole episode is the fact that I was sitting on the edge of the bed that morning, bare foot and just centimetres away from the croc.

"Crocodiles are experts at hiding, that's why they have survived on Earth for so long and why they are the ultimate killers in water."The know how to keep quiet and go unnoticed, it's in their nature.

"They often wander about the bush especially when it's cold and raining. I think he liked it under the bed because it was warm."

He managed to rope in some of his co-workers who assisted him in removing the crocodile from his makeshift den - by securing a rope around the snout, and by calming the creature by covering the eyes. The team then returned the cheeky croc to the river.

Whittall is "pretty sure everyone in Humani [now] checks under their bed before going to sleep now."
