Manchester United in swoop for Robin Van Persie ahead of cross town rival City

Manchester United have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Arsenal’s wantaway striker Robin Van Persie, who has revealed that he will not be renewing his contract with the north London team which has one year left to run.

Van Persie said in a statement on Wednesday that he disagrees with the Gunners over the future direction of the club.   

A statement on his own website read: “AS announced earlier this year, I had a meeting with the boss and Mr Gazidis after the season.   

“This was a meeting about the club’s future strategy and their policy. Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.  

“I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies
with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days.   

“Out of my huge respect for Mr Wenger, the players, and the fans I don’t want to go into details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we disagree on the way that Arsenal FC should move forward.   

Ferguson is intent on swooping in for the striker, who scored 30 league goals last season, as part of a team with which he can set about winning the premier league title back from ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City.   

It leaves Wenger, and Arsenal, with another uncertain summer after the last ditch sales of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas last year.
