Labour MP has suggested during a heat Twitter debate with Tory MP, and fellow member of the Culture, Media and Sport select committee Louise Mensch, that details of private discussions within the committee were leaked to News Corporation.

Watson said that a letter sent by James Murdoch seemed, "uncannily" to address concerns raised during private discussion in the select committee, which was split over the assertion that Rupert Murdoch wasn't a fit and proper person to run a media organisation.

Eventually the committee voted down party lines, with the Conservative members refusing to vote for that finding.

The Labour MP Chris Bryant also joined in the discussion suggesting that the Conservatives were lobbied by News Corp regarding the eventual outcome of the committee's report.

While the Tory MPs initially said the unfit finding was a last minute amendment, it appears that it had actually been tabled on the 27th.

"You waited until the Monday to say you wouldn't support report of it was included," said Watson on Twitter.
