Heathrow declared 'ready for the Olympics' after border queue concerns

Hundreds of extra fully trained border staff will be brought in, said Marc Owen, Heathrow director of the UK Border Force, so visitors wouldn’t suffer problems at UK borders.

Last week the government said it recruit 70 border staff to prevent lengthy queues at Heathrow after the Olympics.

The airport has spent over £20 million to prepare for the influx of people for the games.

Heathrow’s busiest day ever is expected to be August 13, the day after the closing ceremony.

The airport expects to process 137,800 people leaving on that day and 200,000 bags, rather than the usual baggage average of 150,000.

And airport bosses are also said to be recruiting 1,000 volunteers to wave off each flight that leaves London after the games.
