Royal Mail to limit the number of stamps available to post offices before price hike

Their decision to put a limit on the number of stamps stores – and customers – can buy before the price goes up has brought accusations that Royal Mail is profiteering excessively.

On April 30, first class stamps will go up from 46pm to 60p, a 30% rise, with second-class stamps increasing 39% from 36p to 50p. 



A Royal Mail spokesman has said” We do have a sensible allocation in place so individual retailers can pre-order in advance of the price rise.



“These allocations are in place for all retailers so we can balance the customer demand with the need to protect Royal Mail’s revenues.”



Retailers though have reported as much as a fivefold increase in the number of stamps that people are buying as the public look to stockpile in advance of the price hike.
