It’s most people’s worst nightmare: sitting helplessly in a boat while a great white shark circles you hungrily.
For three men fishing off the coast of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, it became a reality. The huge fish glided around their 21ft boat for 20 minutes, during which time they had the good sense to film it. The footage offers an incredible, if terrifying, view of the massive predator just under the surface.
Despite the shark slapping its tail against the boat at one point, the men manage to stay remarkably cool during the whole event. One of them jokes about trying to catch the creature with his fishing rod, but anyone who’s seen Jaws knows how that ends.
Maybe it’s the size of their craft that’s the problem, as everyone knows that to catch a shark “you’ll need a bigger boat”.
