Kent State linebacker Andre Parker ran 58 yards in the wrong direction, after he scrabbled for a bouncing free ball.
Running towards the wrong end zone is one way to get some attention on the first day of the season.
The comedy continued as Parker’s run completely bemused his opponents. Two Towson players came chasing after him and tackled him to the ground, instead of letting him score for their team.
“He’s running the wrong way,” said the commentator for TSN, “wholly mowly, how often do you see that?”
The run didn’t count, but it certainly got Parker some attention. The run was disallowed, as a muffed punt cannot be advanced, as it’s an uncontrolled touch.
Luckily for Parker, it wouldn’t have mattered anyway - Kent State beat Towson 41-21.
