To get to the Abbasi Palace in Amman, you have to drive right into the middle of the Old Town’s chaos and then drag your luggage down a dirty side street that looks as though it was designed for robbing vulnerable backpackers.
Overview But this truly terrific hostel’s exterior really doesn’t do it justice.
There might not be a whole lot of choice for the budget traveller in Amman, but that’s not the reason the Abassi Palace is so popular. It has cheap, spotless rooms and extremely accommodating staff.
Whether you want help booking a taxi, advice on where to get a cheap feed nearby, or a hastily sketched map with a list of recommended city sights, the guys behind the front desk are always happy to oblige. There’s also free wifi.
Wow factor They throw in a traditional Jordanian breakfast of pitta bread, falafel, cheese, eggs and tea.
Rooms We can’t claim they’re pretty, but they are clean and simple, and for the price you really can’t ask for much more than that.
Price Dorm rooms from £7pn.
