A Monarch plane had to be diverted en route to Majorca after a passenger’s hair was set alight mid-flight in a stag party prank.

A 24-year-old from Widnes was arrested on suspicion of endangering an aircraft after the plane made an emergency landing in Gatwick, having taken off from Manchester. Detecting smoke from singed hair, the pilot made the decision to land, although nobody was hurt. A spokesman for the airline said: “Monarch has a zero tolerance approach to disruptive passengers on board.”
