Beverley Knight (Hurricane)
One of the UK’s most likeable and gifted soul singers, Knight’s been looking for a record worthy of her talents for a decade. Although this one is released on her own label, which implies a pronounced level of creative control, 100% isn’t it. While there’s a too-many-cooks element to some songs, it’s the presentation of Knight’s vocals that is the real problem; she’s a charismatic singer, not that you can tell from the flat production. She’ll get there eventually.
