Wet conditions forced the umpires to call off play on the third day of the second Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand on Monday.

The first two days were also washed out due to rain and bad weather.

With only two days remaining in the match, Bangladesh have lost all realistic hopes of squaring the two-match series. They lost the first Test by three wickets at Chittagong last week.

Some sunshine following overnight heavy rain had raised hopes of action later in the day but conditions proved unsuitable.

“The two umpires inspected the ground at 11:00 am local time (0500 GMT) and ordered the removal of the covers because the sun had come out and there was another inspection due in the late afternoon,” said an official.

“But suddenly the dark clouds came back and since the conditions are not suitable with the pitch and outfield still wet, the third day’s play was called off.” New Zealand won the three-match one-day series 2-1.
