A press conference is due to be held at Lord’s at noon where the managing director of the England team, Hugh Morris, will make a statement.
Strauss has been captain for three years and has presided over one of the most successful periods in English cricket during which England prevailed over Australia in the Ashes, both on home soil and Down Under.
Recently, though, the England camp has been rocked by the sacking of Kevin Pietersen over texts sent to the opposition. A meeting between KP and Strauss had been schedule but is yet to happen and it is now unlikely, perhaps, that this meeting will take place at all.
