Caleb Stalder from Taree, NSW, won this year’s annual event, picking up the gold in the second race of the day.
“I can’t believe I got the cheese. It’s awesome,” Stalder said of his surprise victory to the BBC.
Winner of the first race of the day was Kenny Rackers from Colorado Springs, USA.
The annual event dates back to the 1800s and is a famed but also feared institution in which people with absolutely no regard for their own safety and well-being charge down Cooper’s Hill in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, after a 8lb piece of cheese.
Only this year, they were running after a plastic imitation cheese after Diana Smart, who had provided the cheese since 1986, was told that she could be held accountable for any injuries and accordingly decided to keep her cheese for herself.

Nonetheless, a crowd of 2000 congregated to watch the madness unfold, broken bones, tumbles and fancy dress costumes and all.
