The ad, titled ‘Thanks Rupert Murdoch, but Australians can choose their own government’ was created by activists GetUp was funded by online crowdsource funding.

GetUp‘s ad was aired on Channel 9 in Brisbane for four days, but blamed the broadcast on what they called a ‘coding error’.

The ad shows an actor picking up dog poo with a copy of New Corp’s Courier Mail with the line “It was great when you could pick up a paper and get, well, news.”

“Fair enough, we all have an opinion. But political bias presented as news is misleading crap. Don’t let the crap decide your vote. Stand up for what you want. Tell Rupert we’ll choose our own government.”

“All three [TV networks] have said it’s for the reason that they don’t want to criticise another media organisation,” said the director of GetUp, Sam McLean.

“We think that’s an outrageous breach of our right to freedom of speech.”

Decide for yourself and check out the ad in the video below, which has been viewed over 300,000 times.

Meanwhile, a sweary webpage called Dontbeafuckingidiot which compares policies from the two parties in a completely biased way has proved popular with Labor party supporters.
