The film is set in Laos, starring mostly amateur actors, and tells of a young boy who is said to be cursed from birth and is blamed for everything that goes wrong, including the building of a new dam in the local area.
As a result, he leads his family through Loas and he enters a competition to build a home-made rocket to help his family from the poverty they live in.
Mourdant accepted the award from Tribecca co-founders Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal and said of the film’s victory:
