The hotly-anticipated fixture will kick-start the autumn international rugby period, and will feature the mercurial backs, Israel Folau, Kurtley Beale, Will Genia and Adam Ashley-Cooper of the Wallabies against the star-studded ranks of the invitational Barbarians team. With both teams looking to showcase their many talents, the game promises an abundance of fast, high-scoring running rugby.
The Barbarians have also confirmed that Australia wing Nick Cummins will line up for the Baa-Baas against his former team mates.
Cummins has scored six tries in his 15 Test appearances and the 26 year old – nicknamed the “Honey Badger” – has cult hero status with fans for his attacking play, off-field interviews and personal style, with one newspaper dubbing him ‘The world’s most Australian man’.
The winger was, of course, released from his Western Force and Wallabies contracts to move to Japan and to provide more support for his father, who has prostate cancer, and a brother and sister — they both have cystic fibrosis.
“Nick Cummins typifies the Barbarians rugby spirit,” says Baa-baas coach John Kirwan. “He’s a huge loss, having hung up his Australian jersey to play in Japan, but this is a great opportunity for him to prove himself against old team-mates.”
Over 50,000 Tickets have been sold already so a bumper crowd is expected. A great day out at Twickenham and a feast of rugby with end to end action will surely be in store for all.
