The 83-year-old former host of hit shows during the 70s and 80s including It’s A Knockout and A Question of Sport and now a regular commentator for BBC 5Live, appeared in court earlier this month to deny three charges of indecent sexual assault.

He was granted bail after denying charges that he molested a nine-year-old girl in 1983, fondled the breast a girl aged 16 or 17 in 1974 and kissed a 13-year-old girl on the lips in 1984.

However, the presenter was arrested yesterday after attending an appointment at a police station in Lancashire and charged with rape and 14 counts of indecent assault which occurred between 1967 and 1986.

Lancashire Police released a statement that read: “Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service an 83-year-old man has this evening been charged with one offence of rape and 14 offences of indecent assault.”

A woman who was aged 22 in 1976 has accused the TV and radio star of rape. The 14 counts of indecent assault are alleged to have occurred to ten girls who were aged between nine and sixteen years old at the time.

“A number of historic allegations have been made, all of which are denied,” said Louise Straw, Hall’s solicitor.

“None of these allegations have been raised with the authorities in the last three to four decades which raises concerns and issues.”

Mr Hall has been bailed to appear before magistrates in Preston on 7 February.
