Festival organiser Melvin Benn said: “’It is with a considerable amount of regret that I have decided not to go ahead with The Big Chill in 2012.
‘I looked long and hard late last year at moving the date so it didn’t clash with the Olympics but the mix of the festival fans’ desire to keep the date and an inability to find an alternative date that works I plumped for maintaining the existing weekend.
‘Sadly, the artist availability and confirmations we were achieving led me to conclude that I couldn’t risk going ahead with the event as an outdoor event this year.’
The festival may proceed this year as a smaller, indoor event, with a scheduled return, triumphantly outside, in 2013. Last year’s headline acts were The Chemical Brothers, Kanye West and Rodrigo y Gabriela.
It’s not just the Hertfordshire event that has been subject to cancellation this week – there has been festival cancellations down under too.
The Perth leg of the HeatWave festival has been cancelled just a day before the show was scheduled to go ahead.
A statement on the festial organiser’s facebook page said: “We regret to inform you that due to circumstances out of our control, HeatWave Perth has been cancelled.”
This comes after news earlier in the week when D12, who were scheduled to headline the event in Perth, missed their slot at the Adelaide event after the missed their flight to the city.
